St Leonard's has eight bells which are rung from ground level, so the draught is particularly long and, we're told, an interesting challenge to ringers. We are always delighted to welcome visiting bell ringing sides and can provide teas and refreshments if required.
Our own practice night is on Tuesdays from 7.15 pm. Again, you are most welcome to join us, but please call first as we occasionally have our sessions at the Red Lion pub instead! The emphasis at St Leonard's is on enjoying ringing the bells rather than mastering complicated methods.
We aim to ring for the first Sunday service of the month and for every ecumenical Sunday service. As well as ringing for local weddings we have joined bell towers across the country in ringing to celebrate the Royal Wedding and the Golden Jubilee. On Friday 27 August at 8.12 am we helped mark the start of the London Olympics by taking part in the All The Bells Project - ably backed by a group of enthusiastic villagers ringing cowbells in the church car park!
Jo Barnes is our tower captain, but Andrew Denley is the point of contact for any information regarding the bells - weddings, having a go, or the history of the bells and the bell tower at St Leonard's. His phone number is 01342 719377 and his email is firstname.lastname@example.org.
