It was a cold and frosty morning that saw the start of the Turners Hill Boxing Day Fun Run 2014. One hundred and eighty five runners arrived to take on the four-mile course through the countryside and at 11am were started on their way by Canon David Tickner.
The first home was Tom Owens of the Shettelston Harriers, who, having missed last years event, set a new course record of 21.52. Coming in second but a full minute behind Tom was veteran runner Chris Grauch of the Boulder Running Company in the USA - he left after the run to catch a flight back home!
The first lady to finish was Ella Newton of the Herne Hill Harriers running in the under 17's category finishing the course at 26.40 and being placed 15th overall. Ed Rollitt completed the course in 27.40 and was the first boy in the junior category to finish.
Katie Fulford-Smith, Kennagh Marsh and Mandy Regenass were the first three ladies in the Senior category to finish.
The prize giving as held in St Leonard's Church Hall where, after refreshments of coffee and mince pies all runners received a commemorative Finishers Medal. The first placed winners in the three categories received trophies donated by Harbour Holdings though whose land in Rowfant the race is routed.
The 10th Anniversary run received compliments for the course and for the helper and marshals who continue to make the day a success. A total of £755.71 profit was raised and all proceeds will go to the upkeep of the Church which is in dire need of a new roof!
